Our story begins in the late 1970’s. The Gracie family is among the most famous and feared in Brazil. Helio Gracie is the respected patriarch of a large family of boys who followed in his footsteps.
The Gracie boys train in jiu-jitsu and fight Vale Tudo on the streets of Rio. Born warriors they fight for respect and for the family legacy. Oldest brother Rolles Gracie is the family’s heir apparent. When Rolles dies at 31 in a flying accident the family’s story takes a turn that will change the history of fighting. At 17 Royce Gracie leaves Brazil to join his older brother Rorion in California.
As immigrants speaking little English, together they will build the Gracie name in America and help start the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC.) And the slight and unassuming Royce Gracie will emerge as one of the greatest fighters in history.
